Visa & Entry Requirements
Everything you need to know about visiting El Salvador — from visa requirements and PEI applications to border procedures and traveler tips. Updated for 2026.
It depends entirely on your passport nationality. El Salvador divides all countries into three entry categories. Citizens of Category A countries — including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, all EU member states, Australia, Japan, and most of Latin America — can enter visa-free for up to 90 days with no advance application needed. Citizens of Category B countries must obtain a Special Entry Permit (PEI) before traveling. Citizens of Category C countries require either a consulted visa through an El Salvador consulate or a PEI. Use the interactive map on our home page to check your specific country instantly.
